Slow Food

Slow food believes that modern food processing makes people loose their taste and that tast is necessary for for awareness of differences. This awarness is fundamental in creating strong individuals that can diffientiate and choose. The founder claims that fast food in the end creates a slave mentality, because people loose the ability to be critical.

We witnessed how a lot of traditional knowledge about food has been lost and is being replaced by new hightec knowledge. Slow foods mission is to preserve traditional foodknowledge and educating and stimilating people. Slow Food created the University of Gastronomic Science to offer a multidisciplinary academic program in the science and culture of food. Today, it has over 85,000 members in 132 countries. People are becomming more aware of tampering with our food and the market for natural food is rising rapidly, though still small.

By reawakening and training their senses, Slow Food helps people rediscover the joys of eating and understand the importance of caring where their food comes from, who makes it and how it’s made. Convivium activities introduce local foods and producers to both members and non-members, while Taste Workshops offer guided tastings with food experts. School initiatives like convivium school gardens offer our youngest eaters hands-on learning experiences about the food they eat and grow themselves.

Taste education
Defense of biodiversity
Linking producers and co-producers

My personal opinion:
This is a very good initiative! We need movements like these to preserve our heritage. Also it is important that big movements exist that can make a punch when it comes to defending our interest with government. Democratic society is very much influenced by lobby groups. Industry knows this. To participate in decissionmaking and influencing industries positively large movements like these are needed.

What you can do?
